Bee Pollen 580 mg 100 caps

Bee pollen is considered a highly nutritious food because it contains a balance of vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, enzymes, and essential amino acids. Typically, bee pollen is used as a rejuvenator or a tonic. It is also used to enhance athletic stamina and strength (though scientific evidence is lacking) and to assist in recovery from illness. Bee pollen is often used as a pollen and spore antidote during allergy season. It may aid in respiratory complaints such as bronchitis, sinus congestion, and common rhinitis. In the support of hormonal disorders bee pollen is thought to balance the endocrine system with specific benefits in menstrual and prostate disorders. In Chinese medicine bee pollen is used for building blood, reducing cravings for sweets and alcohol, as a radiation protectant, and a cancer inhibitor.

Bee Pollen 580 mg 100 caps

Ingredients and Use:

Each Capsule Contains:

  • Pure cold pressed bee pollen 580 mg.

Suggested Usage:
1 to 3 caps 2 to 3 times daily.

Caution: When used orally by individuals with pollen allergies or honey intolerance. It can cause allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis in any given individual, depending on the type of pollen. Patients with pollen allergies are at risk for serious allergic reactions. Allergic reactions can include itching, swelling, shortness of breath, light headedness, and anaphylaxis. Chronic allergy symptoms due to bee pollen include gastrointestinal (GI) and neurologic symptoms and eosinophilia. Pollens come from various plants, including buckwheat, maize, pine (songhuafen), rape, and typha (puhuang)
Note: Greyman et al. has suggested that although bee pollen allergy is relatively rare, warnings to include information regarding potential adverse reactions in sensitive individuals is needed to caution the public.
Pregnancy: Not recommended, there is some concern that bee pollen might have uterine stimulant effects; avoid using.

Bee pollen refers to the pollen from flowers that collects on the legs and bodies of worker bees. It can also include amounts of nectar and bee saliva. Bee pollen composition varies depending on plant source and geographic region. Up to 50% of bee pollen can be made of polysaccharides. The other constituents include lipids (oleic, palmitic, and linoic acids), protein, simple sugars, vitamin C, and carotenoids, anthocyanins, phytochemicals, pyrrolizidine alkaloids, and flavonoids such as rutin, quercetin, myricetin, and trans-cinnamic acid as free aglycons. Furthermore, total phenols, in the form of non-tannins have been isolated. Flavonoids have been reported to exhibit a wide range of biological activities, including antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, and vasodilatory actions. In addition, flavonoids inhibit lipid peroxidation, platelet aggregation, capillary permeability and fragility, and the activity of enzyme systems including cyclo-oxygenase and lipoxygenase.

Cancer research:

  • Anti-proliferative: One study on bee pollen extracts have been found to inhibit respiratory burst within cancer cell lines probably by their antioxidant potentials: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16039555?dopt=Abstract
  • Research has found that bee pollen may reduce some adverse effects of cancer treatment side effects. Additional study is needed before a firm recommendation can be made. Bee pollen was effective in reducing adverse effects of cancer treatment in a double-blind, placebo controlled study of 25 women with inoperable uterine cancer. The stresses and adverse effects of radiation, such as anorexia, nausea, alopecia, inflammation, and sleeplessness were less in the bee pollen group. Leukocyte concentrations were also higher.
