Betaine HCLBetaine HCL lowers the stomach pH, which is the acidic level of the stomach. The lower the pH, the more acidic the environment is for food digestion this aids in the metabolism of proteins, increase absorption of minerals, and provide a barrier for entry of microorganisms into the GI tract.

The stomach due to its hydrochloric acid content is a hostile environment for microbes. The acidity acts as a first line of defense against infections. Recent evidence shows that the loss of gastric acid production is the result of undiagnosed asymptomatic atrophic gastritis. To set up a treatment program for atrophic gastritis, it is often beneficial to supplement with Betain HCL BETWEEN meals to minimize re-infection. A supplement that contains pepsin may cause irritation of the lining of the stomach if taken on the empty stomach. Thus Betain HCL can be taken with or without meals.

| After using another company's betaine HCL for a while I tried this one because, unlike the other, it's made without any artificial flavors - just a vegetable capsule. Good option for anyone looking for betaine HCL without a lot of junk added in and without pepsin. |
