Several nutrients and herbs have been able to inhibit the growth of fungus both in laboratory studies and human studies.

Caprylic acid has been reported to be an effective antifungal agent in dealing with candidiasis. Garlic has also demonstrated significant antifungal activity both in animal and laboratory studies. The most active compound in the garlic that appears most likely to be responsible for this is the allicin. Oregon grape root contains the compound berberine, an alkaloidthat is active against numerous organisms including fungi, especially candida albicans. By inhibiting the growth of the candida organism, berberine can prevent the overgrowth of yeast. Grapefruit seed extract has also shown a high level of antifungal activity.

Many plants can promote optimal liver function and encourage the body?s inherent detoxification pathways. Perhaps the most powerful is the extract of silymarin (milk thistle). The compounds in milk thistle protect the liver from damage and in the process enhance detoxification pathways.

Last but certainly not least, intestinal flora and vaginal flora plays a major role in maintaining homeostasis systemically and locally. Lactobacillus is normal to both the gut and vagina and must be kept in good supply in order to keep the overgrowth of other organisms in check. We use a highly active stable form of lactobacillus acidophilus.
