Do the newborn calves receive all the colostrum they need?

How does colostrum work?
Bovine colostrum is known to mimic the composition of human colostrum, providing immunoglobulins (like IgG), growth factors, peptides, lactoferrin, vitamins, and minerals. Immune factors from oral bovine colostrum supplementation are not digested and absorbed, but remain intact and active in the intestinal tract. As such, colostrum participates in gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) activity, and therefore plays a role in both immune health and gastrointestinal function. Just as colostrum is used to nourish and establish immune defenses at the intestinal lining of a newborn infant, children can use colostrum to re-establish those same immune defenses. Many children, like infants, do not have optimally functioning immune systems due to illness, environmental insult, or prescription drug use.
