Connex Plus contains the major components involved in the synthesis and
maintenance of connective tissue. Connex Plus is the Pharmax product of choice
in any circumstances where joint mobility and flexibility are challenged or
where there is joint pain.
Glucosamine is the building block of the proteoglycan matrix, which constitutes
the major component of cartilage. Several double-blind, placebo-controlled
trials looking at joint pain, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis have shown
significant beneficial effects with supplementation of glucosamine sulfate
(Noack et al., 1994, Muller-Fassbender H et al., 1994, Reginster et al., 2001).
Glucosamine appears to have its effect by preserving proteoglycan structure and
so slows the progression of disease and symptoms. Furthermore, evidence then
suggests that the damaged tissues heal with glucosamine supplementation.
Chondroitin sulfate is a glycosaminoglycan composed of repeating units of
N-acetylchondrosine. In most diseases or malfunction of connective tissue, the
structure of chondroitin is compromised and this can be ameliorated by
supplementation.
Methyl sulfonyl methane (MSM) is an excellent source of sulfur, an essential
element for the formation of keratin, collagen and elastin. Sulfur plays a vital
role in detoxification and also inhibits the cross-linking and bonding of
collagen (thought to be responsible for the ageing, wrinkling and toughening of
skin). Sulfur supplementation with MSM can therefore help to maintain the
elasticity of the skin and tissues, speed wound healing and reduce scar tissue.
MSM also supports the health of mucosal barriers of the body.
Due to the nature of how the components of Connex Plus function in the metabolic
process, at least eight weeks of supplementation are needed in most people
before significant benefits are observed.
