Why is it important to add ground flaxseeds to the diet?
The typical US diet is very deficient in fiber and Omega-3s, which are both conveniently found in ground flaxseeds. Fish Oils contain Omega 3s, but Flaxseeds are the only grain containing a large amount of alpha-linolenic (omega-3) fatty acid. Omega-3 fatty acid are well known for their beneficial effects on heart disease by lowering serum lipids (fat in the blood).4 This makes blood platelets less "sticky", thereby reducing the risk of a blood clot. The omega-3 in flax is a polyunsaturated fatty acid, which is known to contribute to lower blood cholesterol.
Why is Flax fiber so important?
The fiber in Flaxseeds stands out above other whole grains because of its mix of both soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps slow digestion, keeping blood sugar on a more even keel. Soluble fiber also helps lower blood cholesterol levels. Studies show that the insoluble fiber in flax is helpful for regulating bowel movements. Current research indicates that the fibers in flax may be capable of blocking the action of certain cancer causing substances in the body.
Why is FiPro better than buying whole flaxseeds and grinding them myself?
The ground flaxseeds are superior than whole flaxseeds since they allow you to absorb the healthy omega-3 fats within them. FiPro Ground Flaxseeds is very practical since the seeds come already ground up and ready to use! Also, the ground seeds are milled at low temperatures assuring that the oils do not get damaged or spoil.
Are there any diseases associated with Omega-3 deficiencies?
Studies show that Omega 3 deficiencies are associated with arthritis, lupus, scleroderma, neuronal degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, and complications during pregnancy. There are also links between Omega 3 deficiency and prevention of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, autoimmune disease, inflammatory disorders, PMS, and skin conditions.
Heart Disease
Research from the Lyon Heart Study shows that including flaxseeds in your diet daily can dramatically decrease risk of heart disease. Other studies show that Omega 3 deficiencies are associated with arthritis, lupus, cancer, scleroderma, autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis, neuronal degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, and complications during pregnancy.
Weight Loss
Human research shows that the main omega 3 fatty acid in flax seeds, alpha linolenic acid (ALA), is the first fat depleted during weight loss, yet with low levels of this essential fat, cells cannot remain fluid, detoxify, or optimally continue to burn stored fat. Thus, ALA is critical during weight loss, and can also help sensitize insulin receptors for blood sugar balance.
Depression, Hyperactivity, and Schizophrenia
In September 1998, the National Institutes of Health held a workshop to examine preliminary findings indicating that omega-3 fatty acids may be an effective treatment for a wide range of disorders including depression, hyperactivity, and schizophrenia. [3]
