Fibrocystic Breast Disease
Many women will be told by their physicians, at some point in their lives, that they have fibrocystic breast disease. This usually benign and common condition occurs due to hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle. Symptoms include swollen, tender breasts with one or more "lumps" present. Symptoms frequently worsen just before the beginning of menses, and begin to subside near the end.
While it is always concerning to discover a "lump" in the breast, it is important to know that most are benign. Regardless, it is always important to have your doctor immediately examine any suspicious lump in the breast to rule out a cancerous cause.
