About GCP GeniKinoko by QOL Labs

GeniKinoko GCP is a powerful functional health food from Japan produced by a special organic soybean fermentation technique involving isoflavone extracts and medicinal mushrooms. GCP contains rich levels of isoflavone aglycones, especially Genistein, as well as polysaccharides from Basidiomycetes mushrooms. In vitro studies show it is a natural anti-tumor substance. GeniKinoko GCP is also a natural anti-angiogenesis substance far more powerful than Genistein. An innovative technology is used to create this product making it is especially bioavailable. Isoflavone glycosides are transformed into aglycones using B-glucosidase-producing basidiomycetes via an innovative Japanese technology. GCP has shown to be well tolerated with no dangerous side effects.

"GCP has shown to interfere with cell growth in prostate cancer tumor models, and is an anti-angiogenesis substance both in-vivo and in-vitro… Lab experiments have shown GCP to have greater activity than genistein alone."

GCP GeniKinoko:
  • Rich Source of Fermented Organic Genistein and Phytoestrogens
  • Reducing Angiogenesis (blood flow to tumor)
  • Estrogen or Hormone Sensitive Cancers
  • Prostate Cancer: Ideally for PSAs under 10

What is GCP?
GCP stands for Genistein Combined Polysaccharide. It is a fermented soy genistein concentrate plus contains a medicinal mushroom complex for the immune system. GCP is organically produced and is not a GMO crop (Genetically Modified Organism). GCP has been compared to genistein products, and research has shown that GCP is far superior and more effective than genistein alone*. GCP has powerful anti-angiogenesis properties, thus restricting blood flow to the tumor, and has been found to kill prostate cancer cells in vitro*. *(Dr. Aaron Katz, Columbia Presbyterian Medical, Center for Holistic Urology)

Are there any side effects to taking GCP?
There are no dangerous side effects while taking GCP short or long term. The only side effect reported is gas or bloating in about 10% of patients who may not be use to consumption of fermented foods (soy, miso, tempeh, natto, edamame). Helpful suggestions include taking a good Digestive Enzyme containing amylase, protease, cellulase, etc, as well as a high quality Probiotic formula (L.Acidophilus & Bifidus, i.e. HMF Forte product) near the same time you ingest the GCP.

Is there any research on GCP and prostate cancer (PCa)?
Currently, Dr. Aaron Katz of Columbia Medical Center (Center for Holistic Urology) has performed several studies on GCP in both animal models, and in his patients. Two of his research papers on GCP have been accepted by peer reviewed medical journals, and one was published this August 2002 in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine. V.8, No.4, pp.493-497.

In Dr. Katz’s in-vitro experiments, GCP successfully killed prostate cancer cells. In his human trial, GCP was concluded to have “…some potential activity in the treatment and prevention of prostate cancer.” (J.Alt Comp Med). The biopsy proven prostate cancer patients in the trial consumed GCP for 44 days at a 2g dose, and their radical prostatectomy specimen revealed no cancer. Yet, the PSAs of these men varied in the 44 day period. While some went down or stabilized, some went up. He concluded by saying that PSA may not be the best way to determine the progress of the disease since he found improvements regardless of PSA changes. Furthermore, the trial was too short in duration, and GCP dose was too low. Natural compounds are usually found to demonstrate their effectiveness gradually over many months, and dosing often needs to be high when aggressive disease is present.

Lastly, the Man To Man prostate cancer support group did an informal study on GCP which lasted over one year for some men, and included doses varying between 2 and 9grams. The results showed that GCP did significantly help lower PSA when original PSA of these men was below 10. Also, the higher the GCP dose, the better the results, and taking AHCC in addition to GCP significantly helped achieve better results, especially in quality of life parameters.

Animal research from Japan confirms that combining GCP with AHCC in an equal dose of 3grams each, provides the most promising results in shrinking the prostate tumor, anti-angiogenic activity., and apoptosis. Please see the "Poster Presentations" of research on the www.GCPresearch.com website for further details.

What type of results have been seen in PCa patients using GCP?

  • Shrinkage of the tumor and blood flow to the tumor
  • Apoptosis
  • Small to moderate decrease or stabilizing of PSA
  • Enhanced tolerance to chemotherapy/radiation (especially while using AHCC +GCP)
What is the recommended daily dosage of GCP for a cancer patient?
The recommended dose varies between 3-5 grams per day. Each gram is about equal to 3 capsules of 335mg. Thus, 3grams=9 capsules (335mg caps), and 5grams=15 capsules per day. GCP should be taken on an empty stomach for optimal absorption. This means 20 minutes before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Is GCP better than regular Genistein?
In-vivo trials by Dr. Aaron Katz confirm that GCP is far superior than Genistein for cancer cell apoptosis. Genistein is a very good substance for a prostate cancer patient, but GCP is superior in the following ways: 1) Pure Genistein is very expensive and hard to find 2) GCP contains many other active components such as daizein, and glycitein in addition to Genistein, which enhance Genistein's function. 3) Commercial Genistein found in soy products is not fermented which causes leaching of critical nutrients from the GI during regular consumption. 4) Most soy products are GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) which have not been tested for long term safety in humans and have been found to cause genetic mutations in animals. These GMO foods have unseen dangers not found in GCP. Most importantly, GCP is far superior to Genistein since it also contains polysaccharide from Reishi mushrooms shown to have powerful effect on nourishing the immune system.

Is GCP better than drinking annato (fermented soy beverage)?
There are many good components to annato such as proteins, minerals and a little isoflavone aglycones, so it is good for health. However, the concentration of isoflavones including Genistein is very low in this kind of product. In general, soybean contains only 0.2% isoflavones (half is Genistein), so it is much lower in soy beverage, and it is impossible to get enough Genistein from any soy beverage to have an effect on tumors.

What is the difference between GCP and AHCC?
In brief, AHCC is ideal for those trying to strengthen the immune system (white blood cells, cytokines, macrophages, NK cells, etc) as well as the quality of life when dealing with any kind of cancer. GCP on the other hand seems to specifically target the hormone related cancers (prostate, breast, ovary) and cancers which have angiogenic in nature.
