Benefits:
Green tea catechins have long been known to exhibit a range of biological activities. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a compound in green tea that has been studied extensively and shown in-vitro to promote normal healthy cell function of the prostate gland, lymphatic system, intestines and lungs. EGCG inhibits the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), which disrupts DNA biosynthesis resulting in an inhibition of cell growth. Natural sources of caffeine have been shown to potentiate tea polyphenols, such as EGCG (making decaffeination undesirable). Other benefits of caffeine are thermogenesis and fatty acid oxidation.
