The Williams Vaginal Candidiasis 2001 Yale Study is a published study they did with Yale University using HIV infected women to see if using their vaginal probiotic would help prevent vaginal candidiasis (which is common for HIV women). They checked them to make sure they did not have Trichomonas vaginalis or BV before they participated. It was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 164 women published in the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care in 2001.

Results indicated this for Candida Vaginitis (or yeast infections):

• After 19 months, the Lactobacillus Acidophilus suppository group, 49 never had an episode, and 9 had 1 episode, and 0 had 2 episodes.
• After 22 months, the Clotrimazole (over-the-counter treatment), 43 never had an episode, 7 had 1 episode, and 0 had 2 episodes.
• After 20 months, the Placebo group, 40 never had an episode, 14 had 1 episode, and 2 had 2 episodes.

The Metts H2O2 Davis Study is a non-published study with US Davis with 27 students with a history of Candida Vaginitis completing the study (34 were enrolled). It was a triple-blind, randomized, placebo controlled trial. Average duration was 3.3 months, with follow up lasting 20-34.5 months. The study was performed from 1998-2001. They were divided into 3 groups. This study only had marginal success and due to dropouts, other problems and length of study. This document does not appear to be a study that was published in any peer-reviewed research journal or any journal at all. You have to scroll to the end to find the results box on pg 17.

Basically, this is what happened over a treatment period ~ 6 months:

• Treatment 1 group (9 women) received just the oral placebo and a GyNatren probiotic suppository - they had 2 infections during the treatment period.
• Treatment 2 group (8 women) received the GyNatren oral probiotic and probiotic suppository - they had 5 infections during the treatment period.
• Control group (10 women) received placebo oral and placebo suppository - they had 10 infections in the treatment period.

***Nutritionist comments: These studies do show some positive results for this GyNatren product that using it on a regular basis (3 times weekly) may significantly decrease candidal infections, though they still had recurring infections when using the product, it was significantly less than the Control (Placebo) Group
