Min-Inflamm is a combination of herbal compounds with proven anti-inflammatory effects.
Boswellic acid prevents the formation of the pro-inflammatory group of leukotrienes, these being the most inflammatory of all of the eicosanoids in chronic inflammatory disease.
Curcumin is now considered the most broad-spectrum herbal anti-inflammatory with down-regulatory effect on pro-inflammatory leukotrienes, prostaglandins and prostacyclins. It also inhibits platelet aggregation and the migration of free radical-forming neutrophils to the inflamed area. A further benefit is that curcumin is a potent antioxidant and acts to quench free radicals released during the inflammatory responses. In studies, curcumins anti-inflammatory infectiveness has been found to be in the same range as NSAID drugs (Satoskar et al., 1986).
White willow bark is the natural source of aspirin or salicylic acid. The natural compound is salicin and this is converted to salicylic acid following intestinal absorption. This means that white willow bark can provide potent anti-inflammatory effects that are normally associated with aspirin, with dramatically lowered GI tract side effects.
Bromelain helps in the absorption of all of the herbal anti-inflammatory substances above but also has anti-inflammatory effects of its own. This is due to bromelain activating plasma, which causes hydrolysis of fiber films that are laid down during the inflammatory response. Bromelain also down-regulates production of the kinin family, e.g. bradykinin, which increases vascular permeability. The result of both of these functions is decreased edema and pain at the site of inflammation.
