Ingredients:
Figs* Figs are a wonderful digestive aid- rich in the enzyme ficin. They also help to cleanse and soothe the intestines and maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract. As a concentrated source of minerals they will enrich the blood, and help protect your body from oxidation by increasing plasma (blood) antioxidant capacity. A great source of fiber (containing both soluble and insoluble forms), flavanoids, and a strong anti-cancer agent known as benzaldehyde.
Agave Nectar* Low glycemic sweetener naturally derived from cactus plant. Will not spike blood sugar levels.
Apricots*
Flaxseed Ground Omega 3's are needed by every cell in the body, yet most people are deficient, contributing to many forms of illness and degeneration! The benefits of flax seeds are truly amazing, here are just a few!
The lignans in flax seeds benefit renal (kidney) function.
Phytoestrogens have structural similarity to estrogen- great for menopause!
Tones the stomach and intestines, (mucilaginous). Benefits any digestive disturbance.
Help strengthen immune system and keep arteries clear.
Contain antibacterial, antiviral, and anti fungal properties.
Increase fat burning in the body.
Improve bone strength, connective tissue health, and the condition of hair, skin, & nails.
Contribute to brain function and the ability to learn and concentrate.
Decrease inflammation.
Speed wound and injury healing.
Promote balanced hormone function, contributing to better sleep, mood, and energy levels.
Sorghum
Soy Flour* Another "controversial" food- and its a no wonder, thanks to conflicting and sometimes alarming information. Soy has been used for centuries as part of healthful diets, but, again, we are guilty of over processing (creating isolates, textured proteins, and a virtual flood of concentrated products) and then consuming those processed items with a "more is better" mentality.
Soy Nuts* For some people, the proteins found in soy are an allergen or may just be difficult to break down, leading to some gastrointestinal distress like bloating. We use only fermented soy (never any isolates or flavor enhancers), which means (like miso and tempeh), its proteins are predigested, and therefore often well tolerated by those with gastrointestinal disorders. The big scare about phytoestrogens in soy is just that- a big scare, again, based upon very high doses of isolated and concentrated single components of what was once a natural whole food. Soy has been show to be beneficial (due to its phytoestrogen content) to many conditions from menopause to prostate cancer.
Raw Almonds* Known in nutritional circles as the King of the Nuts! Almonds are alkaline, with a high mineral content (containing as much calcium as milk, high in magnesium, too). They pack 1/3 more protein than eggs and are rich in vitamin E. With manganese and copper- essential cofactors for SOD, they contribute to the production of an enzyme that inhibits free radicals in cells.

Apricot Almond is my Spanish teacher's favorite flavor. She says "Rica tu bara!" and it's true, quite delicious. She's sure to ask for one every time. (If I could just get her to buy some! ;-) It fills her up for hours.

Flax Seed—flax is the worlds richest plant source of Omega
3 fatty acids.
Current nutrition research continues to identify various substances in foods that
appear to act as protectors against chronic illnesses like cardiovascular disease
and cancer. Flaxseed, a popular food ingredient in Europe and Canada, is no exception.
The reasons are many:
* Several studies confirm that flaxseed can be a cholesterol lowering agent
like oat bran, fruit pectin and other food ingredients that contain soluble fiber.
By packaging both omega-3 fatty acids and soluble fiber together, flaxseed presents
two ingredients that favor healthy blood lipid patterns.
* Flaxseed contains healthy amounts of both soluble and insoluble fiber.
Scientists at the American National Cancer Institute singled out flaxseed as one
of six foods that deserved special study. The reason: flaxseed shows potential cancer
fighting ability. Flaxseed is one of the richest sources of lignans, a type of phytoestrogen
which may protect against cancer, particularly hormone sensitive cancers such as
those of the breast and prostate.
Organic Figs—figs are significantly higher in calcium than
other dried fruit, and are also higher in phosphorus. The calcium to phosphorus
ratio is ideal for proper absorption of both minerals, making figs one of natures
best food for bone building and body maintenance. Figs also contain compounds with
anti cancer activity, specifically benzaldehyde and the coumarins.
Organic Agave Nectar—Agave nectar comes from a cactus, with
a very low glycemic index, meaning it does not significantly raise blood sugar levels.
It is unprocessed and therefore provides vitamins and minerals not found in processed
sweeteners. Because of the low glycemic index it is very acceptable for people with
Diabetes and Hyperglycemia.
Organic Dried Fruits—Dried fruits contain Boron, contributing
to healthy bones and also helping to prevent osteoporosis by facilitating metabolism
of calcium, vitamin D, phosphorus and magnesium.
Organic Soy Flour & Soy Nuts—Soy has numerous health promoting
benefits besides being a naturally high antioxidant. Soy helps to produce estrogen,
lower cholesterol, shows promise against certain cancers and helps reduce heart
disease to name a few.
Soy Isoflavones: Research shows they help lower total cholesterol,
preserve bone density, & alleviate intensity of hot flashes. Isoflavones slow down
the creation of new blood vessels that are required for tumor growth. To date over
100 studies world wide have demonstrated when Genistein is added to cells in laboratory
dishes or vials, it dramatically inhibits the growth of many different kinds of
cancer cells and interrupts the spread of breast, colon, lung, and prostate tumor
cells as well as leukemia cells.
Organic Nuts—nuts contain a number of compounds that may help
prevent heart disease and cancer. Nuts are high in heart healthy fat helping to
prevent clogged arteries. Nuts also contain generous amounts of heart healthy copper
and magnesium. Nuts contain powerful antioxidants, helping to detoxify potential
cancer causing substances. Nuts are a good source of fiber, protein, vitamins and
minerals.
Fiber—Diets rich in fiber help reduce the risk of some cancers.
High fiber diets can help you lose weight by slowing sugar absorption, smoothing
out blood sugar levels, reducing hunger, decreasing digestive problems, and enhancing
energy flow
I got 3 flavors to try, carrot cake, pumpkin spice, and apricot almond. Pumpkin spice had the best flavor. If you like a sweet bar, these are not for you, but they were just right for me. I actually think they could leave out the agave altogether. Flax and figs are both so healthy, but you make sure need to drink something with these. I agree they are priced a little steep.
Not worth it.

Won't be buying these again. I bought them because they didn't have any processed sugars, but they just didn't taste very good. And the price tag is too steep.

These are ok....I've been trying different gluten-free bars and I thought I'd try these since I love pumpkin. They're ok in a pinch, but far from my favoritew Biogenesis bars in taste and texture. These taste like what I expect a power bar to taste like....dry, heavy and slightly bitter. But, occassionally I've been happy to have one with me, despite that.

This is one of my all-time favorite bars! Pumpkin Spice tastes the best with the best nutritional components for me - higher fiber and lower calories - while being gluten free!
