What Is Osha (Ligusticum porteri)? Also known as Bear Root, Osha can be considered the best American herb for lung and throat irritations. For generations, the root of the Osha plant has been used by Native Americans to reduce congestion of the upper respiratory tract. A natural immune builder, it has traditionally been used to help the body stay healthy. Native American traditions refer to Osha as Bear Medicine, since originally bears were witnessed using the herb to cleanse their digestive tracts. It was used by mid-western Natives, who chewed the root to relieve sore throats and gum irritations. The tea, rich in terpenes, was believed to help loosen mucus with its camphor-like vapors. Breathe Deeper: Osha helps loosen respiratory secretions and relaxes smooth muscles, allowing you to breathe easier. Great for Athletes: Because Osha can help achieve deeper breath, it is excellent for athletes. Digestion: Osha is excellent for stomach indigestion. Detoxifying: The vapors present in the essential oil can help bring about a sweat, making Osha a great addition to wet-sauna and to help eliminate toxins. Osha Root has been traditionally used for generations to soothe the respiratory tract; this powerful herb combines anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties... a concentrated extract now available to you.
