Allergies and Inflammation
Quercetin works as a powerful anti-histamine and has been prescribed for years to relieve hay fever and other seasonal allergies. It also interferes with pain-promoting inflammatory substances that are made in the body by some different ailments such as rheumatoid arthritis and colitis. Recent research done at Cornell points to another way quercetin alleviates sneezing and cool inflamed tissues. [2]
Heart Disease
Quercetin may be more potent than vitamin E for preventing cholesterol from threatening heart health. According to several studies, high intake of potassium is related to a significantly lower risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. [3]
Cancer
Quercetin is used as a preventive and therapeutic nutrient for cancer. It reinforces the immune system as well as accelerates the production of certain natural detoxifying enzymes that rid the body of potential carcinogens. It alleviates inflammation and works to rid the body of malignant growths. [2] According to animal studies, high-dose quercetin therapy slows the development of many different types of cancer. [4] In people, it stops the growth of leukemia cells and protects against the development of breast cancer cells. [5]
