StressArrest was previously named "GABA Plus". The formula contains Gamma-Amino Butyric Acid (GABA) which is the main calming neurotransmitter in the body. GABA is both an amino acid and a neurotransmitter naturally found in the body. The other ingredients including glycine and niacinamide, help support a more calm and relaxed mood. In addition, vitamin B6 increases the effectiveness of GABA.
When the brain has a lack of GABA, several disorders may develop including anxiety, mood swings, insomnia, and depression. GABA is an effective and safe nutritional tranquilizer that some people need to control seizures or rise above anxious or depressive feelings. Exposure to estrogens, free radicals, salicylates, or food additives can affect our internal supply of GABA. A low-protein diet can also hinder production, as can an insufficient amount of zinc or vitamin B6, both of which help the body to make the nutrient.

StressArrest

Reviewed by Marilyn from West Orange, NJ.
I tried StressArrest because it contains the ingredient GABA, which is supposed to be as useful for insomnia as Klonopin. Well, no such luck. The kind of severe chronic insomnia I have dealt with does not respond to GABA supplementation, and to top it off, if you take a StressArrest to try to go to sleep, you can't then take an ambien or other med to try to get asleep, and you may be stuck for the night.
That being said, my husband, who's insomnia problems are like a drop in the bucket compared to mine, uses them with great success. And so I have been feeding StressArrest to him. And so my recommendation is that StressArrest is appropriate for mild to moderate anxiety or insomnia, but nothing more than that.
Another caviat: For those with low thyroid, I have always found that after taking any GABA supplement, my morning temperature is lower than it was, meaning that it may adversly affect thyroid for those who have thyroid problems.
