T.H.E. Bar contains nutrients designed to play important roles in the body’s normal functions, including the support of cardiovascular and neurological functions.
Protein: The dietary protein provided by T.H.E. Bar supplies essential amino acids that support all of the body’s metabolic and physiologic systems including the intestine, skeletal muscle, cardiovascular, nervous, and immune systems. Protein turnover in these systems is continuous and can be substantial. The dynamics of this constant degradation and resynthesis demand a daily supply of dietary protein and constituent amino acids. Essential or indispensable dietary amino acids must be supplied by the diet as they cannot be made by the body. T.H.E Bar’s sources of protein are from whey and yellow peas, which do not contain genetically modified plant tissue.
Essential Fatty Acids: The Omega-3 fatty acid EPA is the direct precursor for the anti-inflammatory prostaglandins E1 and E3, whereas DHA is of primary importance for the structural integrity of neuronal membranes. DHA is essential for brain and visual development and is vital throughout pregnancy to support fetal brain growth and formation of the retina and visual cortex. In addition to neurological health, studies have shown that DHA, along with EPA, may play an important role in cardiovascular health. Studies indicate that EPA and DHA can act as precursors for the anti-inflammatory prostaglandins E1 and E3, and decrease the formation of pro-inflammatory prostaglandin E2 and thromboxane A2. T.H.E. Bar contains 200 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids from Ultra-Refined fish oil, and does not have any “fishy” taste.
Black Tea Extract: Tea is derived from the plant Camellia sinensis, and has been used for many centuries as a popular beverage worldwide. Interestingly, green and black tea are made from the same plant with black tea being created via the oxidation of green tea leaves. Both forms of tea are a rich source of flavonoids, a class of phytochemicals that are potent antioxidants and support immune function and cardiovascular health.
Observational studies in humans as well as studies in animals indicate that the consumption of green and black tea may provide favorable outcomes for blood lipid profiles and it is proposed that theaflavins may play an important role. T.H.E. Bar contains a special black tea extract that is rich in theaflavins. Pomegranate Extract: Recent science has been focusing on the cardioprotective aspects of pomegranate. These brightly colored fruits contain numerous compounds known for their antioxidant capabilities, including anthocyanidins, catechins, tannis, gallic and ellagic acids. Research has shown that supplementation with pomegranate juice can decrease macrophage lipid accumulation and cellular cholesterol accumulation in mice. Recently, research in humans has confirmed a beneficial effect of consuming pomegranate juice on parameters such as LDL oxidation, blood pressure and blood vessel health. Each bar provides 900 mg of pomegranate extract.
Lecithin and Medium Chain Triglycerides: While the word “fat” often has a negative, unhealthy connotation, the body does require fat for all of its energy and metabolic functions. It is the consumption of hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats that jeopardizes the body’s well-being. The inclusion of healthy fats, such as that from lecithin and medium chain triglycerides ensures that the body receives important lipids in the diet. T.H.E. Bar contains 6g of healthy fats from lecithin and medium chain triglycerides (MCTs). Lecithin, from soybeans can supply important phospholipids including phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine. Phosphatidylserine is active in cell membranes and is the major acidic phospholipid component in the membranes of the brain. Choline, as a component of phosphatidylcholine, is used for synthesis and maintenance of normal cell membranes. Mediumchain triglycerides (MCTs) are fats with a carbon chain length of 6 to 12 carbon atoms. Most fats that are consumed in the diet are long chain triglycerides (greater than 12 carbons) and are broken down in the intestine and then remade into a special form that can be transported in the blood.
However, MCTs are absorbed intact and taken to the liver, where they are used directly for energy. Preliminary evidence indicates the MCTs may be a useful fat substitute for individuals unable to digest other types of fat, including people with fat-malabsorption and enzymatic insufficiencies. Other studies indicate that a diet supplemented with medium chain triglycerides may reduce weight and body fat more than a diet supplemented with long chain triglycerides. Vitamins and Minerals: Studies show that a high percentage of adults and children in North America and other developed countries eat less than the minimum daily allowance of 10 or more essential nutrients. Adequate amounts and proper balance of these nutrients are needed for maintaining good health.
T.H.E. Bar is designed for people looking to consume a variety of nutrients for the entire body’s well-being in a great-tasting snack.
