The Bad News and the Good News About Sunscreens

When it is summertime -  do you lather sunscreen on your family, confidently believing you are doing your best thing for them?

If so, then I have bad news and good news to share with you.

The BAD News
Most sunscreens contain a surprising level of TOXINS and carcinogens. Here are 3 reasons why you should toss your sunscreen right now:

  1. TOXIC INGREDIENTS
95% of sunscreens on the market are loaded with dangerous chemicals and carcinogens that absorb right into your bloodstream. Remember that everything you put on your skin will get absorbed right into your blood (even more so than eating it!). You must be sure to read ingredients and know what is toxic.

  2. VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY
Most sunscreens only screen out UVB (which makes vitamin D), not the UVA that causes the most damage. If you wear sunscreen, then you are blocking your body's ability to make Vitamin D. And Vitamin D deficiency is a serious epidemic linked to many cancers, osteoporosis, bone pain, and depression.

  3. MELANOMAS
Some studies have found a link between melanoma and the use of commercial sunscreen! read ingredients and find out which are toxic.

The GOOD News
There are a few good brands out there committed to making sunblocks with non-toxic ingredients. These products are safe for the whole family, including infants.

Rockwell Nutrition has selected products with the highest standards and effectiveness, so we've got you covered!

My Favorite Sunscreen

Although I'm a big fan of getting some sunshine and making some natural Vitamin D, when I know my daughter and I will be out in the strong sun for a long time, or if I just want to protect the delicate skin on our face, I use sunblock.

It's so important to read ingredients and choose a product that is free of carcinogens and the harmful chemicals that are typically found in 95% of commercial sunscreens.

I have two favorites:

SunClear Natural Sunscreen SPF 30
by Grahams Natural USA is ideal for sensitive skin and offers powerful protection from zinc oxide without turning your skin white.

Key features:

  • Non-allergenic
  • Non-toxic ingredients
  • Light coconut smell
  • Water resistant for 2 hours
  • Ideal for extended time
    in the sun

UltraSolar 50
by DevitaRX is ideal for your FACE as a sun-block,
a mois
turizer, or an anti-aging cream! Offering full spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection with a SPF of 50, it is ideal for everyday use under makeup:

  • Ultimate solar protections with Transparent Micronized Zinc Oxide
  • Light moisturizing daytime cream for normal to dry skin
  • Ideal for those with sensitive skin and breakouts
  • Safe for infants under the age of 6 months
  • Ideal everyday use under your make-up
  • Added antioxidants help protect the skin from aging

Need good drinks and snacks for summer fun activities?

Rehydrate Safely with Electrolyte Synergy Drink Mix
In the summertime, we sweat a lot, and thus we lose important electrolytes from our body which can result in fatigue and dehydration.

Most people reach for sports drinks, but if you read the ingredients, you'll realize they are loaded with unhealthy high fructose corn syrup, and brain damaging artificial colors and flavors.

I recommend grape flavored Electrolyte Synergy by Designs for Health.

  • Naturally sweetened with xylitol
  • No artificial colors or flavors
  • Quick rehydration
  • Increased energy and stamina
  • Shorter recovery post exercise
  • Prevention of muscle cramps
  • Packets mix easily into water
  • Freeze them into grape popsicles!
