I augment my HLC with 1-2 caps of L-Glutamine daily for Celiac. Is that enough?
Q. I was diagnosed with celiac disease about 7 months ago. I recently started taking supplements. I use HLC Intensive probiotics and L-Glutamine. I've seen a difference in how I feel since taking the probiotics and L-Glutamine. The problem is that I really don't know how much L-Glutamine to take. The bottle says 1-2 capsules a day, and that is all I take. Is this enough?

A.
Glutamine is the amino acid that helps to repair GI tissue caused from gluten. You would greatly benefit from taking more glutamine than recommended on the bottle (1 or 2 caps daily). I recommend you use a powdered form, and mix it into water or a smoothie 1-2 times daily. Ideally you would take approx. 6 grams daily, or 1 tsp, twice daily. Check out L-Glutamine powder, by DFH.

Also consider taking Glutenzyme by Pharmax when eating any questionable foods, such as when out at a restaurant, etc. Take 1 capsule just before or during the meal to aid in breakdown of gluten.

And, after a few more weeks of HLC Intensive, switch to HLC Mindlinx and continue to take 1 cap with each meal. This is just like Intensive Probiotics with the addition of bacteria specifically meant to break down gluten and casein. Even if you are not currently eating gluten, it is helpful, since part of the reason for your sensitivity is a lack of this friendly bacteria.

Lastly, my favorite GI Repair formula which tastes like sweetened peach tea is called GI Revive by DFH and it can be used in addition to the Glutamine powder. This combination of herbs and aminos are all healing and restorative to the gut allowing fast normalization of gut function, healing of leaky gut, and strengthening of the digestive mechanisms.
