Vitamins for heartburn instead of kapidex
Q. I'm currently taking Kapidex and would like some more natural way to improve my heartburn and indigestion. What do you recommend?

A.
Often heartburn comes about because your stomach is not putting out ENOUGH of it's own hydrochloric acid to begin with, which delays stomach emptying because food is sitting in the stomach, and then pushes the acidic mixture up against the esophageal sphincter, which then makes you feel like you have heartburn.

Taking a little Betaine HCL can help improve this situation without going on any stomach acid blockers. This is where western medicine gets it wrong very often.

The goal is to improve digestion, improve response to food allergies, gut rebuilding and repopulating with probiotics and other beneficial nutraceuticals and to improve urinary tract health with the following:

Digestzyme (has Betaine HCL 200mg) - this would help with the breakdown of foods in your stomach & intestines. The Kapidex is lowering your stomach's output of acid, and it is likely your food is not being digested well at all. You could try using this while you are taking Kapidex to help with food digestion. If you find it causes any burning in the stomach, then you should discontinue and just use the Plant Digestive Enzymes. You might want to discuss with your doctor about reducing your dose of Kapidex and eventually getting you off it.

HLC MindLinx - 1-2 caps a day.

L-Glutamine Powder - gradually work up the dose, can eventually go up to 10 tsp/ a day in divided doses for healing the intestinal wall. Remember to mix Xylitol or stevia to add sweetness when mixing with water.

Aloe Vera 200x - for immune modulating effects and to help with intestinal healing. Work up to 3 caps a day.

Help for silent reflux in 2 month old baby
Q. My 2-month old daughter suffers from silent reflux which disrupts her sleeping and eating patterns. She was prescribed Zantac by her pediatric gastroenterologist. Her symptoms are not alleviated, they actually seem to get worse. I also started a dairy-free diet in case she is allergic to milk protein. I am interested to know if it is safe to give such a young baby HLC Neonate Powder probiotics, if this product is dairy-free, and what would be the dosage for a 2-month old baby. Is this product known to help acid reflux in babies?

A. HLC Neonate Powder is very safe for newborns and infants, and it is dairy-free. If you are breastfeeding, she could be having sensitivities to other proteins in your breast milk besides dairy proteins. Though it certainly doesn't hurt to remove dairy from your diet to see if helps her symptoms improve.

An ongoing 5 year trial by Pharmax LLC shows that newborns and infants given these HLC probiotics do significantly better than the control group in allergies, asthma, gastrointestinal ailments, and immune system health. Once a healthy intestinal microflora is established this can help reduce these problems. Reflux is a bit more complex, though many babies go through reflux or colic at some point. You baby may show some improvement once she has been taking the probiotics for a while.

For Breastfeeding: Press clean finger into powder and have baby suckle finger. Or use a tiny plastic spoon (i.e. used at the ice cream/gelato store for flavor tasting). These fit perfectly into the Neonate bottle and then into their tiny mouth, and easily smears onto their tongue. Then follow it with a little breast milk, or let them mash it around their mouth with saliva. They may not even notice they have that tiny bit of powder in their mouth (it tastes slightly sweet).

All you need is one little dab for a dose (1/16th tsp), give one dose, three times a day for best results.

Almost all babies spit up, especially newborns. Spitting up decreases once the muscles of the esophagus, the muscular tube that connects the throat to the stomach, become more coordinated. This process can take as little as 6 months or as long as 1 year.

The following tips may help your baby to spit up less often:

  • Feed your baby smaller amounts at each feeding.
  • Feed your baby slowly.
  • Hold your baby during feedings.
    • Don't prop your baby's bottle.
    • Don't hold your baby in an extreme upright position or place your baby in an infant seat during feedings.
  • Try a new type of bottle or use a nipple with a smaller opening to reduce air intake.
  • Limit active and rough play after feedings.
  • Try putting your baby in different positions during and after feeding.
  • Burp your baby frequently during feedings.
  • Do not add cereal to formula without first consulting your health professional.

Betaine hydrochloride helps Hypochlorhydria low stomach acid
Q. What is Hypochlorhydria and what can I take to improve it?

A.
Here is a suggestion for what to take as well as some info on your condition:

Patients with hypochlorhydria take betaine hydrochloride or glutamic acid hydrochloride with meals and snacks. These natural supplements increase the amount of stomach acid, which helps the body properly break down and digest foods, as well as improve assimilation of vitamins.

Hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid) occurs when a person has low levels of stomach acid, also called hydrochloric acid. The body needs stomach acid in order to break down foods so that they can be absorbed in the intestines.

Natural aging, a poor diet, chronic use of certain medications, and past infection with the Helicobacter pylori bacteria may limit a person's ability to produce hydrochloric acid.

Hypochlorhydria may also be a symptom of an underlying medical condition such as Addison's disease, depression, asthma, eczema, gallstones, hepatitis, osteoporosis, psoriasis, thyroid disease, and autoimmune disorders.

If there is low acidity in the stomach, people may only be able to partially digest food. This may lead to malnutrition. Symptoms of hypochlorhydria may include bloating, gas, belching, burning or dryness of the mouth, heartburn, multiple food allergies, rectal itching, redness or dilated blood vessels in the cheeks and nose, adult acne, hair loss (in women), iron deficiency, undigested foods in the stool, yeast infection, as well as diarrhea or constipation. Patients with hypochlorhydria also have an increased risk of developing infections in the gastrointestinal tract because it provides an ideal environment for disease-causing organisms, such as bacteria.

Be sure to stay well hydrated, and eat easy to digest, cooked foods, eat little or no raw foods until you feel better. You might make some broth to sip on to help ease your stomach pain and make easy to digest soup. Here is a link to our broth recipe if you need one, and be sure to use betaine hydrochloride with every meal and snack.

Do you have any products that would treat virus and /or bacteria?
Q. Do you have any products that would treat virus and /or bacteria?

A. Yes we have many great products for treating bacteria and viruses. You will want to focus on using antimicrobials to kill the microbes, as well as immune enhancers to aid in your own body's defense system.

Some of my favorites are:
  • Immunitone, DFH: excellent herbal combination targeting strengthening your immune system—take 1-2 caps twice daily between meals
  • HLC Probiotics by Pharmax: good bacteria for the gut, make up huge part of your first line of immune system, and aid in overcoming pathogenic bacteria in the gut- take 1/4- 1/2 tsp 2-3 times daily with meals.
  • Alli-cinn by Pharmax: active ingredient in garlic and cinnamon bark oil, great for killing microbes, take 1-2 capsules with a meal one or two times daily.
  • Olive leaf extract by DFH: very strong anti-viral, was used by many people to fortify systems during the anthrax threat. Take 1-2 capsules between meals twice daily.
  • L-lysine by DFH: inhibits viral growth very effectively, used to control Epstein Barr, herpes, cytomegalo and many other viral infections. Take 1 capsule twice daily between meals.
  • Paleomeal or Whey cool by DFH: this is a whey protein which is critical for immune function. You may also consume additional chicken, organic eggs, and fish for protein, but this is a great tasting varied way to consume immune enhancign protein. We have a recipe section that involves these protein powders too!

Mother has 1 lung due to cancer & is diagnosed with Shingles. Any suggestions?
Q. My mother has one lung due to cancer, and was diagnosed with shingles in December. Is there anything that you recommend that will help her overall health?

A. I strongly recommend that your mother takes the following immune boosting supplements:
AHCC ImmunoKinoko by QOL, a Japanese medicinal mushroom extract used to strengthen the immune system. Studies show AHCC improves Quality of Life for patients with cancer, HIV, chronic fatigue, diabetes, and immune disorders. As a dietary supplement take two AHCC Capsules once daily before mealtime. For additional immune support take two capsules three times daily before mealtime.

Finest Pure Fish Oil Liquid (with essential oil of orange) by Pharmax is another wonderful and extremely beneficial supplement. As a dietary supplement take 1-6 teaspoons daily with meals, mixed into food such as applesauce or yogurt, or taken directly into mouth.

What affect will Monolaurin have on my Epstein Bar Virus? Any other suggestion?
Q. I was diagnosed with the EBV (Epstein Bar Virus) about a year and a half ago and had many symptoms such as headaches, chills, tiredness and persistent nausea. I took some supplements which helped a little and am trying Monolaurin now. Will it kill the virus, as well as the nausea and chronic fatigue? Is there anything else I should take which is anti-viral and good for my immune system?

A. Monolaurin is very effective in limiting the growth of EBV and is recommended in your case. Yet it is not the only thing necessary to help you recover. EBV will continue to live in your body for life, similar to the other herpes viruses. Because of this, you will need to take other measures to support your immune system, such as daily vitamins, minerals, probiotics, and essential fatty acids, in addition to rest, healthy mental imagery, and healthy diet.

Eat plenty of healthy protein and good fats daily (such as Coconut Oil and Omega 3s) since they are all important for immune function. Organic eggs are a great food for you, as is organic butter, wild caught salmon, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, avocado, coconut oil, etc. You should eat at very least 8 oz. per day of animal protein.

Supplements I recommend are:
  • Monolaurin by Ecological Formulas: Take 2-6 capsules twice daily between meals.
  • L-lysine by DFH: Take two caps per day in split doses.
This is an excellent antiviral in addition to Monolaurin. By the way, Monolaurin is also found in coconut oil, so you would benefit from using coconut oil for cooking and baking.
  • Immunitone Plus by DFH: Take 2 per day. This contains many immune boosting and re-energizing herbs, which is much needed after this long battle your immune system has endured.
  • Whey Cool Protein Powder: This is organic whey protein, which is raw and active in helping the immune system. It would be good if you could have a protein shake every morning including this, frozen blueberries, some coconut milk, and the Cod liver oil I list below. (it tastes good!)
  • Finest Pure Cod Liver Oil, by Pharmax: Take 1 Tbs. daily in your smoothie or straight off a spoon. This contains both omega-3s- proven to support immune function- and vitamins A and D, needed for healthy immune function.
  • HLC High Potency Probiotics, by Pharmax: Take 1/2 tsp daily. You can blend it into your shake or take it off a spoon. It is delicious. This are good bacteria, needed to support your immune system. If you are deficient, which most people are, than your immune system has to allocate some of its "forces" to your gut, and therefore has a tougher time dealing with your virus.

What's the difference between MCT oil and Monolaurin & are either anti-viral?
Q. What is the difference between MCT oil and Monolaurin as a dietary supplement? I am looking for something containing anti-viral properties.

A. For maximum antiviral activity take Monolaurin, which is the active ingredient in coconut oil. Even though MCT oil by Crayhon Research is from coconut oil, is will not be nearly as potent as taking Monolaurin straight. It does not hurt to take both, but if choosing only one, stick with Monolaurin. You can see dosage recommendations on the webpage.

Also, consider adding L-lysine into your antiviral regimen. It is known for its ability to limit viral growth.

ImmunoKinoko AHCC is helping to save Chris' life.
Q. ImmunoKinoko AHCC...is helping save Chris' life and welcome any and all opportunities to share our experience.

A. Thank you SO much to the makers and sellers of ImmunoKinoko AHCC—we fully believe it is helping save Chris' life and welcome any and all opportunities to share our experience with anyone who's willing to listen.

Chris stayed at a treatment center—IBC Hospital in Mexico—for a month (shortly after learning that the cancer had spread to 7 tumors—4 in the chest, 2 in the pelvis and 1 in L2 (lumbar 2 of lower spine). With no hope offered of Chris to live longer than a year (and before we met Jonathan, the scientist who recommended ImmunoKinoko AHCC, Poly-MVA and Beta 1, 3D Glucan as well as several other things) we sought out various treatment centers in other countries who offered alternative treatments to help fight cancer (and other disease) and/or prolong their lives

By looking at him you would never guess that he has Stage IV cancer and was told he would be passing away within a year. (This was 2 ½ years ago)!

—Take care, Karen

Is there an affordable way for me to consult with a Nutritionist?
Q. I developed a really bad case of Acid Reflux and had to have surgery for it. After having the successful surgery, I developed other medical problems such as Anxiety and Depression. I have been getting spasms and cramps around the heart area extending towards my abdomen. I can't afford to see a nutritionist nor a dietician.

A. From all the symptoms you mentioned to me, it sounds like you have a magnesium deficiency. This causes anxiety and muscle spasms, twitching, and an acidic state. This would be one of the first products I recommend you try.

For acid reflux, I recommend you experiment with using digestive enzymes before each meal which could eliminate the problem. Start by taking one before meals and if that does not work, try two before each meal. I recommend Digestzyme by DFH.

Or, if digesting protein is what seems to cause most the reflux, I recommend you try Betain HCL by DFH—one right before each meal.

Continue with the good dietary changes to eliminate sugar, refined/processed food, and trans fats. But most importantly, you need to increase consumption of mineral rich vegetables and salads, and be sure your macronutrient ratio of foods is balanced. This means having protein at every meal, and Omega 3 fats each day. Protein and Omega 3s are very important for fighting depression.

I highly recommend you use Omega Synergy caps by DFH for your Omega 3s. Take 2 capsules twice daily with meals. You will notice a difference in your skin, hair and energy within the first week, and to your brain health within 3 weeks.

For depression, 5HTP has been a huge hit across the country since it has allowed people to get off their toxic antidepressants which either do not work well, or cause side effects. 5HTP is a precursor that your body needs in order to form its own supply of serotonin. Here is an excellent product: 5-HTP Synergy by DFH

Since you cannot meet with a nutritionist, I highly recommend you keep on reading good books to help you make better eating choices and improve your health. It took years for your health to get this bad, so it will take up to a year or more to reverse it using nutritional medicine.

Here are some nutritional books I highly recommend: Brain Health and Wellness, The Second Brain (this book is about poor digestive health and its effect on the brain)
