Zinc is the most abundant intracellular trace element and is involved in a large variety of enzymic, structural and regulatory physiological functions. One of the critical structural functions of zinc is as a stabilizer of phospholipids and thio groups within cell membranes.

In childhood, zinc deficiency symptoms include impairment of growth and poor appetite, which clearly could result in a vicious cycle developing.

In the adult, mild zinc deficiency, especially in the elderly, leads to depression of the immune system.
Specifically, zinc deficiency has been shown to:

• Reduce the overall mass of lymphoid tissue.
• Reduce thymus hormone activity.
• Reduce functionality and number of lymphocytes, natural killer cells and neutrophils
• Modify cytokine production

Male reproductive function can also be adversely affected by mild zinc deficiency.

Pharmax Zinc Ascorbate is synthesized by our own unique process, involving freeze-drying without solvents. The combination of zinc and metabolically bound vitamin C is a preferred vehicle for absorption and an excellent combination in stimulating overall immune function.

15mg of elemental zinc comes from zinc ascorbate and 185 mg elemental vitamin c comes from zinc ascorbate. Ascorbate is a very small molecule compared to a chelating molecule. So if you have 1g of zinc ascorbate and 1g of zinc chelate, the elemental zinc component of zinc ascorbate is much larger than the elemental zinc component of zinc chelate. In other words, in the same size capsule of zinc ascorbate and zinc chelate, the zinc ascorbate capsule will contain more elemental zinc. Freeze drying is used, in this process to obtain a more pure product.
