The Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing

The skin is an organ of elimination just like the kidneys and the colon. More than one pound of waste products are discharged through the skin every day. If the skin becomes inactive with its pores chocked with millions of dead cells, then impurities will remain in the body. The other eliminative organs, mainly the kidneys and liver, will have to increase their labor and will eventually become overworked. If toxins and wastes begin to build up in the tissues because the kidneys and the liver cannot cope with their job, then sooner or later disease will follow. Such is the responsibility to keep a healthy and well functioning skin. Dry skin brushing will not only help increase circulation and elimination of toxins, but will also make a huge difference to the quality of your skin.

Dry skin-brushing itself - dry meaning not in the bath - will change the health of your whole body. Once circulation improves, you can look forward to softer skin, prevention of skin infections and irritations, and prevention of colds.

To brush the skin, use short, very light, frequent strokes toward the heart for 45-60 seconds. Start at the soles of the feet and work your way up your legs, your front and your back. Then do your hands and up your arms. when doing your chest and upper back, focus the brush strokes towards your heart. Don't do your face, but do brush the back of your neck and your scalp. For hygiene reasons you need a separate brush for each member of the family, and of course, you need to wash the brush itself every couple of weeks. Dry skin-brushing is recommended to stimulate lymph and blood circulation for the removal of impurities under the skin surface.
