    Natural Anti-Inflammatory
Enzymes are the first line of defense against inflammation. (1,2,3). Inflammation is a reaction by the immune system to an irritation. Lets say you have an injured right knee. The immune system, sensing the irritation in the knee, creates a protein chain called a Circulating Immune Complex (CIC for short), tagged specifically for that right knee. This CIC floats down to the right knee and causes pain, redness and swelling the classic earmarks for inflammation. This, at first, is a beneficial reaction; it warns us that a part of ourselves is hurt and needs attention. But, inflammation is self-perpetuating, it creates an irritation that in response, and the body makes CICs.
Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Celebrex, Viox and the rest of the Non Steroidial Anti Inflammatory Drugs all work by keeping the body from making all the CICs. This ignores the fact that some CICs are vital to life, like those that maintain the lining of the intestine and those that keep the kidneys functioning. Not to mention the fact that they, along with acetaminophen, are highly toxic to the liver. Every year 20,000 Americans die from these over the counter drugs and another 100,000 will wind up in the hospital with liver damage, kidney damage or bleeding intestines from the side effects of these drugs. (4,5).

Systemic enzymes, on the other hand, are perfectly safe and free of dangerous side effects. They have no LD-50, or toxic dose. (6). Best of all, systemic enzymes can tell the difference between the good CICs and the bad ones. This is due to the fact that hydrolytic enzymes are lock and key mechanisms and their teeth will only fit over the bad CICs. So instead of preventing the creation of all CICs, systemic enzymes just eat the bad ones and in so doing, lower inflammation everywhere. With that, pain is also lowered.

Dr. David Getoff - Importance of Vitalzym Systemic Enzymes

World Nutrition's manufacturing facility is located in Shizuoka, Japan. It is 250 miles West of the radiation exposure area that occurred after the recent earthquake and tsunami. The amount of stock of Vitalzym and VitalzymXe in the US at the time of the reactor leak was a 8 month supply, and as of this date, 4/29/2011, there is still ample supply to last 6 months before new stock is needed. We have verified with World Nutrition that they are checking the Japan facility daily for radiation exposure and doing multiple checks of the products to make sure it is safe from radiation. If you want further information, please check what World Nutrition, Inc., has put on their website regarding this concerns, here is the link: http://www.worldnutrition.info/manufacturing.

    Find the Right Dose:
When Vitlzym kicks in there will be no doubt in your mind that it is working! An activation dose is the amount of enzymes you need to begin to feel a benefit from the product. The recommended dosage given on the label is meant as a maintenance dose for those without any complaints. Consumers with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Arthritis, Auto Immune Conditions, Fibrosis complaints and Inflammation symptoms need to find the dose at which they begin to feel better. They can then maintain that dose or after 3 months try to reduce the dose and see if the benefits are still felt.

Finding the right dose for you:
Start taking 3 capsules 3 times a day, in-between meals. If in 3 days no benefits are felt, increase the dose to 4 capsules 3 times a day, for 3 days. Continue increasing the number of capsules taken until a benefit is felt. Most will feel the Vitlzym kick in somewhere between 3 and 5 capsules, 3 times a day.

There is no toxicity from enzymes, (no LD-50). Some customers who have suffered accidents have been placed on 10 Vitlzym capsules 3 times a day by their doctors for a few weeks until the bulk of their inflammation and its resultant pain are gone. Then they are brought down to a much lower maintenance dose to prevent the formation of scar tissue.

Contraindications: Hemophiliacs and those on prescription blood thinners should not use this or any other systemic enzyme as the enzymes help the drugs to work better and may overly thin the blood.

    Conditions:
The dose listed on the label is the maintenance dose for those without complaints. The therapeutic doses listed below are generalizations of what has worked for most consumers of Vitlzym with those conditions. Your final activation dose may vary.

    Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia:
    3 capsules 3 or 4 times a day.

    Auto Immune Conditions:
During periods of remission 3 capsules 2 to 3 times a day. During periods of attack 5 capsules 3 times a day.

    Osteo Arthritis:
    Severe: 3 capsules 3 to 4 times a day.
    Moderate: 3 capsules 2 to 3 times a day.
    Mild: 3 capsules 2 times a day.

    Opening Circulation:
    5 capsules 3 times a day for 1 to 3 months then 3 capsules 3 times a day thereafter.

    New Sprains and Strains:
Severe to Moderate: 5 capsules 3 times a day for one week, then 3 capsules 3 times a day.

    What are enzymes?
Enzymes are found in every cell of every living plant and animal, including humans. Enzymes are biocatalysts; which means that they either begin a reaction or cause a reaction to speed up. Without enzymes life would not exist.

    How do enzymes work?
Enzymes work by virtue of their shape. An enzyme molecule can be compared, in shape at least, to many short strings of pearls (amino acids) strung together. This long string folds in on itself as certain sequences of amino acids (pearls) are more attracted to each other than to other sequences, thus giving the enzymes a specific shape. At one point on the surface of this string of pearls there exists something, which looks like a keyhole. This is called the "active site" on the enzyme. When matched with its specific coenzyme (a vitamin, mineral, or trace element) this "lock" has the exact inverse contour of the "key" which is contained in the molecule of the enzyme's "substrate" (the molecule that the enzyme wants to transform into a different molecule). When the substrate appears, it inserts the "key" into the "lock." The molecular structure of the substrate is transformed into a different molecular structure and both enzyme and the newly transformed molecule go on their ways.

    What is a digestive enzyme?
A digestive enzyme breaks down the proteins, fats and carbohydrates in food during the digestive process allowing the body to better utilize the food you eat.

    What is a proteolytic enzyme?
The proteolytic enzyme digests protein. Some examples of proteolytic enzymes are protease, serrapeptase, bromelain, and papain.

    What is a lipase enzyme?
    Lipase enzymes digest fat.

    What is an amylase enzyme?
    Amylase enzymes digest carbohydrates.

    What is systemic enzyme therapy?
Systemic enzyme therapy is utilizing enzyme supplementation to increase the enzymes throughout your body to assist in restoring the body to health.

What else are enzymes used for?
Enzymes are widely used in the food industry. Enzymes are also essential in the manufacture of beer.

    Are enzymes considered "anti-inflammatory drugs"?
Proteolytic Enzymes are considered anti-inflammatory agents.

What is the recommended dosage of Vitlzym?
The recommended dosage is to take 3 capsules, 1 to 3 times daily. Take capsules at least 30 minutes before a meal, 60 minutes after a meal or any time in-between meals. However, since each individual is different, a higher or lower dosage may be appropriate for each individual. It is important to understand each persons activation dosage. See the information from Dr. Wong on the activation dosage.

How long before the Vitlzym takes effect?
It may depend on the individual's physiological make-up. Everyone is different. Testimonials from some of our customers reported positive effects ranging from 3 days to 2 weeks. Taking the right activation dosage is critical to the success of the product.

Are there any side effects at all with Vitalzym?
We currently have no documented evidence of any adverse side effects based on the use of Vitlzym. You should not take this product without the consent of your physician if you are currently taking anti-coagulants, commonly known as blood thinners.

Are there any compatibility issues with other nutraceuticals?
No. In fact, since vitamins are coenzymes and minerals are cofactors to enzymes, enzymes are needed in the body for them to be able to have their full effect. In addition, the vitamins and minerals assist the enzymes. Thus, systemic enzyme use enhances the effect of other supplementation programs.

Are there any compatibility issues with any prescribed drugs?
Yes. Customers using anti-coagulants, or blood thinners, should not use Vitlzym without the consent of their physician. The enzymes enhance the effects of the blood thinning medications making them stronger.

Why do you call Vitlzym a vegetarian product?
The enzymes used in Vitlzym are plant derived with no animal products. This allows everyone, including strict vegetarians, to take Vitlzym. Some enzyme products use ingredients that are derived from bovine (cows).

How does World Nutrition grow their enzymes? Is the process ecologically safe? Does the process use any chemicals?
The enzymes in Vitlzym come from two sources; the fruit enzymes along with the Amla and Rutin are from fruit grown in organic plantations, and the protease and serrapeptase are lab grown in a protein (fungus) medium. The enzymes are then extracted from the medium so that not a trace of fungus is left on the enzyme and the purity is assured.

What is serrapeptase and where does it come from?
Serrapeptase is a powerful proteolytic enzyme. In Japan, Takeda sells serrapeptase as a registered anti-inflammatory medicine under the product name Dasen®. Serrapeptase is laboratory grown.

    Does weather affect your product?
Exposure to heat over 150 for an extended period of time can destroy the enzymes. Store your Vitlzym in a cool, dry place, with the lid of the bottle tightly closed.

    Where is Vitlzym made?
World Nutrition uses ingredients from the purest sources. Vitlzym is manufactured at World Nutrition's facility in Phoenix, AZ.

What Are Systemic Enzymes and What Do They Do?
    By: William Wong N.D., Ph.D.
The word "systemic" means body wide. Systemic enzymes are those that operate, not just for digestion, but throughout your body in every system and organ.
An enzyme is a biocatalyst something that makes something else work or work faster. Chemical reactions are generally slow things, enzymes speed them up. Without enzymes, the chemical reactions that make up our life would be too slow for life as we know it. (As slow as sap running down a tree in winter). For life to manifest, as we know it, enzymes are essential to speed up the reactions. We have roughly 3000 enzymes in our bodies and over 7000 enzymatic reactions. Most of these enzymes are derived or created from what we think of as the protein digesting enzymes. But while digestion is an important part of what enzymes do, its almost the absolute last function. First and foremost, these body-wide protein-eating enzymes have the following actions:

    Anti Fibrosis
Enzymes eat scar tissue and fibrosis. (7). Fibrosis is scar tissue and most doctors learn in anatomy that it is fibrosis that eventually kills us all. Let me explain. As we age, which starts at 27, we have a diminishing of the bodys output of enzymes. This is because we make a finite amount of enzymes in a lifetime and we use up a good deal of them by the time we are 27. At that point, the body knows that if it keeps up that rate of consumption we'll run out of enzymes and be dead by the time we reach our 40s. (Cystic Fibrosis patients who have virtually no enzyme production to speak of, even as children usually don't make it past their 20s before they die of the restriction and shrinkage in the lungs from the formation of fibrosis or scar tissue).

So our body begins to dole out our enzymes with an eyedropper instead of with a tablespoon. Result: the repair mechanism of the body goes off balance and has nothing to reduce the over abundance of fibrin it deposits in nearly everything from simple cuts, to the inside of our internal organs and blood vessels. It is then when most women begin to develop things like fibrocystic breast disease, uterine fibroids, and endometriosis. We all grow arterial sclerotic (meaning scar tissue) plaque, and have fibrin begin to spider web its way inside of our internal organs, reducing their size and function over time. This is why as we age our wounds heal with thicker, less pliable, weaker and very visible scars.

If we replace the lost enzymes, we can control and reduce the amount of scar tissue and fibrosis our bodies have. As physicians in the US are now discovering, even old scar tissue can be eaten away from surgical wounds, pulmonary fibrosis, kidney fibrosis even keloid years after their formation. Medical doctors in Europe and Asia have known this and used orally administered enzymes for such for over 40 years!

    Blood Cleansing
The blood is not only the river of life; it is also the river through which the cells and organs dispose of their waste. Enzymes improve circulation by eating the excess fibrin that causes blood to sometimes get as thick as catsup or yogurt, creating the perfect environment for the formation of clots. All of this material is supposed to be cleaned off by the liver on first pass or the first time it goes through. Given the sluggish and near toxic or toxic states of everyones liver these days, that seldom happens. So the waste remains in the blood, waiting for the liver to have enough free working space and enough enzymes to clean it. This can take days or in some people, weeks! (8).

    When systemic enzymes are taken, they stand ready in the blood and take the strain off of the liver by;

    • Cleaning excess fibrin from the blood and reducing the stickiness of blood cells. These two actions minimize the leading causes of stroke and heart attack: blood clots. (8).
    • Breaking dead material down small enough that it can immediately pass into the bowel. (8).
    • Cleansing the FC receptors on the white blood cells, improving their function and availability to fight off infection. (9).

And here we come to the only warning we have to give concerning the use of Vitlzym or any other systemic enzyme don't use the product if you are a hemophiliac or are on prescription blood thinners like coumadin, heparin and plavix. The enzymes cause the drugs to work better, so there is the possibility of thinning the blood too much.

    Immune System Modulating.
Enzymes are adaptogenic, seeking to restore a steady state to the body. (9). When the immune system is running low, we become susceptible to infectious disease. When its cranked up too high, then the system creates antibodies that attack its own tissues, as are seen in the autoimmune diseases of MS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Lupus. Here the Vitlzym will tone down immune function and eat away at the antibodies the immune system is making to attack its bodies own tissue.

When the immune system is run down too low, the enzymes increase immune response, producing more Natural Killer cells, and improving the efficiency of the white blood cells, all leading to improved immunity.

    Virus Fighting.
Viruses harm us by replicating in our bodies. To do this, a virus must bond itself to the DNA in our cells through the medium of its exterior protein cell wall. Anything that disrupts that cell wall inhibits the ability of viral replication by rendering individual viruses inert. (10,11). Systemic enzymes can tell the difference between the proteins that are supposed to be in your body and those that are foreign or not supposed to be there (again the enzyme lock and key mechanism). Vitlzym has the strongest protein eating effect of any enzyme due to its Serrapeptase content and can be of help in combating viruses.
